A new dawn for the recently renovated Port Washington pierhead light
The Port Washington Breakwater Light was completed in 1935 at a cost of around $38,000. The metal Art Deco tower rests on a twenty-foot-square cement base that has large arches on each of its faces so it does not obstruct the view of mariners using the harbor. The light underwent renovations in 2025 and was adorned with scaffolding from late spring to fall. This photo was taken the day after the scaffolding came down with the majestic sky appearing to celebrate the occasion. Some equipment is still visible at the base and the door would not be painted for another few weeks.
