Giclée Printing and Archival Materials
“Giclée” is a fine art archival quality print created by using a specialized high resolution inkjet printer with pigment-based ink (instead of standard dye-based ink). It stands apart with its high level of longevity and value compared to a standard print. Giclée (pronounced “ZHEE-clay”) is French for “to spray.” This literal interpretation of the word defines what the process of giclée printing is: reproducing art through a high quality printer and ink to exactly resemble an original image.
The term, “archival,” with regard to ink, paper, canvas, etc., is also used in conjunction with either “museum quality” or “conservation quality.” This refers to materials which are designed to last for 100 years or more. Click below for more.
