The ferns grew inside the room while this 13th century abbey was without a roof. When the roof was replaced, the ferns continued to grow. Today, Iona Abbey is the spiritual home of the Iona Community, an ecumenical Christian religious order, whose headquarters are in Glasgow. It’s also a pilgrimage destination for those seeking spiritual solitude.
