At Uhuru Peak atop Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania while watching the sun rise from beneath a bank of clouds.
After a few days of hiking, we left camp under a full moon and hiked several hours to the peak. This was the view shortly after summiting the mountain. Uhuru Peak, at 19,341 feet above sea level, is the highest free-standing peak in Africa. It’s located on the volcanic cone, Kibo, as part of Mt. Kilimanjaro, which is the highest free-standing mountain in the world that’s not part of a mountain range.
