With a bright sun above to the right, mist billows over the Point Sur light station atop a hill with pasture and a fence post in foreground at Point Sur Historic State Park in California.

Point Sur is a large 361-foot-tall rock which seems as if it has been broken off from the nearby mountains and pushed oceanward, leaving a low-lying area of land in between. The lowlands connecting the rock to the mainland is known technically as a tombolo. Construction of the light station began in May of 1887.
