"From the Depths"

from $55.00

Stairs from the sea to the halls of Dunvegan Castle in Dunvegan on the Isle of Skye, Scotland, UK.

In Celtic folklore, a Chief of the MacLeods married a fairy and they lived together on Skye and had a child. The fairy was only permitted to live with him for a year and a day, after which she had to return to her own kind. The nearby Fairy Bridge marks where she departed. She left their son wrapped in a silken shawl which, as the Fairy Flag, could be used three times to save or protect the clan. The flag currently resides at Dunvegan Castle.

This is also available as a canvas print here.
